Pharma Packaging

Smart packaging reduces supply chain losses and increases transparency, integrity, control and safety at any stage of the supply chain

Pharma Packaging

In collaboration with a world leader company in big pharma, RADIO6ENSE developed a custom platform based on a battery-less wireless sensor. Our solution has no onboard battery, is flexible to adapt to any drug package and is capable to simultaneously measure the temperature and humidity of the packaging. It also permits to identify and track the drug package, like small bottles, during the manufacturing and storage chains. The energy required to activate and power each sensor is provided from remote by an external reader compliant with the UHF RFID communication protocols. Thanks to its batteryless approach, the sensor can be low-cost and hence usable at item-level. The collected physical parameters are then integrated in RADIO6ENSE data analysis and visualization tools.

Fruit Ripening

Smart Ripe enables a better identification of the best moment to display fruits on the shelf, contributing to minimize food waste.

Fruit Ripening

Fruit freshness sensors or indicators can sense and show the fruit quality status indicators, such as freshness and ripeness, thus helping consumers to choose the optimal fruit with a data-driven approach. RADIO6ENSE contributes to the development of Smart Ripe - Ripening & Intelligent Packaging Experience (SmartRiPE® il packaging intelligente | ILIP S.r.l. Passion for Packaging) under a project supported by Ilip and in collaboration with the University of Torinno - DISAFA (Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie, Forestali e Alimentari). RADIO6ENSE developed the system that includes battery-less wireless RFID transducers integrated into a low-cost intelligent packaging, a smart shelf for the real-time detection of useful electromagnetic-based indicators and an AI algorithm for evaluating the stage of fruit ripening.

Conveyor Belts

The production process will be deeply transformed, without the need for costly trial-and-error tuning process of the vulcanization cycle.

Conveyor Belts

In collaboration with a conveyor belt manufacturer, RADIO6ENSE developed an innovative industrial solution, stemming from the vision of the Industrial Internet of Things (I-IoT) and consisting in the insertion of wireless and battery-less RFID sensors inside the elastomeric blend of the conveyor belt. RADIO6ENSE started by characterizing the electromagnetic response of elastomeric blends, which helped later in understanding the most suitable typology, the correct materials and the optimal technique for the sensor insertion into the rubber. Such sensors, when interrogated by an ad-hoc radiosystem, can transmit wirelessly the temperature value as recorded inside the object, hence constantly optimizing the vulcanization process with the help of a user-friendly interface and data analysis tool developed in Dewesoft.

Critical Infrastructures

Using low-cost devices allows to obtain a high-density monitoring of complex infrastructures, enabling the paradigm of Predictive Maintenance.

Critical Infrastructures

In the SCISSORS (Security in Trusted SCADA and Smart-Grids) project, financed by the European Community in the framework of Horizon 2020, RADIO6ENSE developed a new wireless platform for real-time surveillance. The infrastructure is made of a network of wireless sensors, batteryless and lowcost, to be spread in the area to be monitored and of course also on the machinery to monitor. The customized acquisition software is compatible with a broad range of proprietary and commercial radio-sensors. It allows a real-time remote control crtitical parameters, as well as a detection of anomalies, with the corresponding generation of alarm messages.

Chemical Industry

The battery-less and low-profile of RFID sensors appears a promising solution for the disruptive implementation of I-IoT systems.

Chemical Industry

Predictive maintenance is one of the pillars of Industry 4.0, especially for industries integrating machineries subject to continuous failures. The difficulty to implement the predictive maintenance of machinery in chemical industries is mainly due to the great number of elements to be inspected in real-time, the complexity of its structure and the limited accessibility of the machinery. A battery-less RFID-based solution involving hundreds of sensors and multiple readers was developed to overcome these problems. The developed architecture is a show-case of the elements present in realistic implementations of Industry 4.0: hardware, software, data analysis as well as the possibility to stream the measured data to the existing monitoring system of the factory.

Smart Bandages

Smart Bandages can be used for monitoring biophysical parameters, thus enabling the next step towards the paradigm of the Digital Transformation of Healthcare.

Smart Bandages

Compression therapy is recognised as the main treatment for both the preventive and therapeutic care of venous disease, but its effectiveness is strictly related to the proper tensioning and pressure exerted by each bandage layer. Following the paradigm of e-Health, we have developed a flexible, soft and battery-less wireless pressure sensor for the next-gen of smart/interconnected compression therapy kit. The solution meets the requirements of having multiple sensors with wireless access, minimum electronics circuitry and no battery. The sensor can be read through-the-bandages (and clothes) from remote, by an external reader unit. The collected physical parameters can be processed by our visualisation tools.
